I know my mother shares the same infinity for birthday celebrations as I do. She will be happy with a cut of salmon from her favorite seafood mart, maybe a good conversation with friends on the settee as the sun goes down as they watch the last of the summer “crowd” chase that last wave.
I have tried for years to come up with the perfect gift. I have learned to check my account statements to look for a credit not because she did not like it ,but she thought it was too extravagant or expensive and the money could be better spent. I remember the summer of my first “real” job I went to Zayres and bought her the most “hideous ” shirt. For years I wonder whatever happened to it and while looking thru old pictures she was wearing it while painting in her workshop years later. I stand in front of the cards at CVS and hear her voice “a nice card will do.” BTW this is immense sweat to the forehead pressure.
I came across the poem I CELEBRATE YOUR LIFE while reading this morning and thought this is the perfect gift I could give:
Mom, your birthday means so much to me;
To have you in my life another year,
The time I spent enfolded in your love,
Each day, each moment with you is so dear.
I cherish the very special bond we have.
You lift my spirit in so many ways.
I celebrate your life; I honor you,
And send to you my love and care and praise.
